Club Unite adds Carey Cavanaugh to the Coaching Staff.
Carey Cavanaugh is a former Division I athlete with over 30 years of experience in the game. A sought-after setter during her playing career, Carey began at Ohio State University before transferring to East Tennessee State University, where she earned three All-Conference selections and was named Southern Conference Player of the Year—a rare and distinguished honor for a setter during a time when hitters typically dominated the award. She also earned Female Athlete of the year at ETSU.
Carey’s success on the court was forged through years of elite training, including four seasons with Akron Canton Elite Club, where she competed at the 18s level as a 15-, 16-, 17-, and 18-year-old, qualifying for Nationals each year. This early dedication laid the foundation for her deep understanding of the setter position and her long-term success as both a player and coach.
Her coaching career spans NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, with a specialized focus on foundational skill development and offensive strategy, especially in the setter role. Carey has also served as a consultant, working with teams and individuals to elevate their tactical and technical performance. She is the author of a published book on setting, further establishing her as a leading expert in the position.
In addition to her on-court expertise, Carey is committed to the holistic development of athletes, helping them grow not only as players but as confident, resilient individuals. Today, she continues to share her passion and knowledge through C2 Champion Setting, her coaching and development LLC dedicated to mentoring the next generation of elite setters.
